Dirty Thoughts, Clean Thinking
It is easy to try to be all things to all people but difficult to achieve. As your criticalfriend I recommend that you act with integrity, never cease to question and fear nothing but fear. In our age of mass media and hype, when it is too easy to be labelled, too easy to be marginalised and too easy to be offended, too many people say nothing, do nothing and contribute nothing.
If you are offended you are alive. Never be affraid of feeling alive or of provoking debate. Difficult people drive real change. Comfortable people adapt themselves to the world. Difficult people adapt the world to themselves.
Let's look at the picture above. What are you thinking? Look at the posters under the tabs 'What Next?' , 'Election 2010' and 'Change We See'. What do you feel? Confusion, laughter, outrage, anger, apathy? Ask yourself why you feel what you do? Is it a response to the content or to the context? Ask yourself "If terrorism is the poor man's war, is war the rich man's terrorism?" You are the sum of your experiences and the filters which you apply. Do you take something from every experience and every encounter? And what do you give in return?
There is no prize for agreeing or disagreeing with the sentiments expressed beyond knowing that if you feel something you must care. These are all topical issues. Engage with events, engage with people and above all engage with life. Take pleasure in saying 'YES', never be affraid to say 'NO' and never stop living life true to YOUR code. And if amidst all of that noise and speed and turmoil there comes a point when you no longer know what you are looking for, STOP take a minute out, close your eyes, reach out into the darkness and you WILL find that everything that you ever really needed was within touching distance all along.
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. I look forward to hearing from you!
